Sessions
A skill check session is the usual way to run assessments — for example, everything assessed on one training day. From there, a session moves through five steps.
Key terms
- Assessee
- — The person being assessed in a skill check.
- Assessor
- — The person carrying out a skill check on an assessee.
- Skill check
- — A record that a person was assessed on a skill, with an outcome and a date.
- Skill check session
- — A group of skill checks done together, e.g. on one training day.
1. Create the session
Start from the Sessions list with New Session, giving it a name, a date, and optional notes. Name and date are both optional — leave the name blank and it takes the next sequential number shown in the placeholder; leave the date and it defaults to today.
Getting around a session
Creating a session drops you straight onto its own page, and every step that follows starts from there. To come back to it later, open Sessions in the Skill Track nav and pick it out of the list.
There are two places to go from:
- The Contents card lists Personnel, Skills and Skill checks with their current counts. Clicking a row opens that page — the first two are steps 2 and 3 below, and Skill checks is the read-only log described at the end of step 4.
- The page header carries Record, a menu holding the two recording views, and Review, which is step 5.
2. Choose skills
Open Skills from the Contents card, then tick which catalogue skills apply to this session, grouped by package and skill group. Choices save automatically as you tick.
3. Choose personnel
Open Personnel from the Contents card, then tick who is being assessed in this session, grouped by team. This also saves automatically.
4. Record results
This is the actual assessing, done from either By Person or By Skill — the two entries in the header's Record menu. They are two views over the same recording control, both laid out as a picker on the left and a scrollable list of assessment rows on the right:
- By Person — pick an assessee on the left; every skill assigned to them lists on the right.
- By Skill — pick a skill on the left; every person assigned to it lists on the right.
For each row, record a result with the two quick buttons — one cycles through the fail tiers, the other through the pass tiers (e.g. Weak Pass → Pass → Strong Pass) — or open the ⋮ menu for the full list of enabled results (see Skill Track for what each one means). You can add a free-text note per result too. Changes autosave a couple of seconds after you stop clicking or typing. Try it below — this is the same row you'll see in the app:
Chest compressions, rescue breaths, and AED use on an adult manikin.
A menu in the page header (the small icon next to the picker) controls how the skill list is organised:
- Skill order — By Package/Group (the default) nests skills under their package and skill group, in catalogue order, with anything no longer part of an assessable group collected under "Other." Alphabetical lists skills by name instead.
- Show Skill Description — when on, each skill's description appears inline alongside its name while you're recording; off shows just the name.
Both views work on a phone. The layout changes but nothing is dropped: the left-hand picker collapses into a dropdown above the results, and the rows below it behave exactly as they do on a laptop.
Recording requires a linked personal record, and you must be one of the session's assigned assessors. Without both, you'll see a warning banner instead of the recording controls.
Skill checks in the Contents card opens a read-only log of everything recorded so far in the session, filterable by result and status — useful for a quick sanity check before moving to review.
5. Review and approve
Review, in the session header, lists every recorded check grouped by assessee, with a checkbox on each one. Unchecking a check excludes it from the session's official results. Clicking Approve sets the session's status and stamps each check as included or excluded to match your selection.
Approving isn't a lock. You can come back to Review, change which checks are included, and approve again at any time — nothing prevents further edits after the first approval.
Session status
A session's status appears in the sessions list as one of three raw values — Draft, Include, or Exclude — while the per-check table on a session's Checks page shows the friendlier Draft, Approved, and Excluded. They're the same three states:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Still being worked on; not yet approved. |
| Include | Approved — its results count in reports. |
| Exclude | Explicitly excluded; its results don't count. |
